Hey, guys!
I hope you’ve had a fantastic week! Mine’s been a total cracker—another deal signed, and renos kicking off shortly. WHOOO HOOO! There’s something about that initial buzz of a new project that never gets old, right?
Now, that fresh-faced young thing in the photo? Yep, that’s me, many years ago! Not telling you exactly how many, but long enough to remember that nurses used to wear caps and capes (what a pain in the arse in the wards, let me tell you!).
But I digress… This week, I wanted to share a story with you—one that ties together my days as a nurse with my current property journey. And yep, you guessed it, I literally saved a life along the way.
The Unexpected Twist at a Property Conference: How I Saved a Life
Picture this: a couple of years back, I found myself at the ILRE Super Conference in Melbourne, a place packed full of property enthusiasts, like-minded folks, and some epic investors. I was lucky enough to be selected as a finalist and got to share parts of my story on stage. Talk about a rush! Honestly, if you ever get the chance to attend one of these, jump on it—I highly recommend it.
So there I was, mingling and chatting over lunch on the Sunday of the event, when a lady (let’s call her Ms. T) approached me. She looked really anxious and wasn’t looking well at all. Now, I don’t usually go around announcing my nursing background, but I must have mentioned it at some point during the conference because Ms. T came straight to me.
“I think I may have eaten something I’m allergic to,” she said, eyes wide with fear.
My first thought was: Holy sht*. Allergic? As in anaphylactic? That’s a serious deal, folks. I went straight into action mode. I asked her if she had an epi-pen, and sure enough, she pointed to her bag. I pulled it out, and it was bloody out of date! But in an emergency, you use what you’ve got.
I jabbed her with the epi-pen while the organisers scrambled to call an ambulance. Seconds felt like hours as I waited for the paramedics, watching her like a hawk.
Life or Death: The Epi-Pen Gamble
Slowly, Ms. T started to feel better. She even tried to get up, saying she didn’t want to miss the rest of the conference. I was like, Hell no! You’re going to the hospital, and I wasn’t taking no for an answer. The paramedics arrived soon after and whisked her off to the ER.
The whole experience rattled me, but I was so relieved she was okay. And guess what? Just the other day, she messaged me to say, “Thank you, Julie. You saved my life. I don’t recall much from that day except… that was literally the worst reaction I’ve ever had and 3 shots of adrenaline later my throat still closed in resus! After that scare, I finally started taking my condition seriously. I’ll forever be grateful, as are my daughters.”
I mean, how bloody amazing is that? Knowing I made a difference to her life is priceless.
From a Life Saved to a Property Journey
Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. Ms. T and I got chatting a while later, and it turns out she’s on her own property journey that reminds me of my own early days. In fact, she’s doing some epic stuff with relocatable homes—totally outside the box and a real money-maker. We’re planning to dive into her strategy on an upcoming podcast episode because, trust me, this stuff is gold.
This whole experience got me thinking about the incredible people I meet in this line of work—often in the most unexpected ways. I don’t just teach property investment; it’s become a platform for connection, education, and sometimes, saving a life.
What a full-circle moment, hey? From my days as a nurse to helping people on their property journeys, life has a funny way of connecting the dots.
I always say it’s the people you meet along the way that make the journey truly worthwhile.
Wrapping It Up: Take Action
Anyway, enough from me. If there’s one thing I’ve learned—whether it’s saving a life or flipping properties—it’s this: Take action.
